A Growing Faith in Science and Progress Hand in hand with the unfolding of the Industrial Revolution went a faith in the ability of scientific procedures and calculations to predict and place objective controls on a variety of procedures and activities. The invention of new technologies, such as those associated with mass production, were made possible at least in part by scientific discoveries and the applied sciences. Such scientific and technical breakthroughs promised to make goods both more reliable and more widely available.
