It is, of course, helpful to offer some markers that explain the status of various aspects of the field. At the same time, there is the very real danger of working at a level of high abstraction so as to say very little beyond the obvious or at a low level of detail so as capture singularities but very little of the network crisscrossing the various clusters of theorizing within the contemporary field.
These perspectives, when looking toward history, offer alternate and often unforeseen readings (Brandon, for example, in chapter 6, offers a powerful alternate feasible reading of Dewey). Unfortunately, the scholarship they have put forth here reinforces the epistemological dominance of the dominant and produces knowledge that shuts out counternarratives on the history of the field.
